Shark Stewards and International Ocean Film Festival join forces to bring you a fantastic selection of films in celebration of Sharktober. What is Sharktober? Shark Stewards first began Sharktober and Sharktoberfest celebrations in 2008 to celebrate the return of the white sharks to our Sanctuary offshore, and to educate and motivate the public to protect sharks. Sharktober is an opportunity turn the negativity of the press and the poor impression the public has about white sharks and instead try to bring awareness around the importance of sharks to marine ecosystems, and why we should protect them. Itinerary: 6pm - Doors6:30pm - Films 8pm - Raffle Blue Serengetii (42 min) Blue Serengeti takes the viewer on a journey that shows unprecedented, never-before-seen underwater views from the California National Marine Sanctuaries, to find out why the greatest migration on earth comes here, to the waters off Monterey, California. Alice in Borneo Wonderland (12 min) Alice, a sixteen-year-old aspiring biologist, learns to SCUBA dive off the coast of Malaysian Borneo and discovers a wondrous world. With the help of Shark Steward instructors she learns to respect the key predators of that astonishing world--the sharks, endangered worldwide because of shark finning. Her next step is to share with other students her new knowledge about the importance of protecting the oceans. Stay Tuned. More films to be added.
